— Why

Why office ergonomics training?

Working at a screen for long periods demands a lot of your body and your concentration. A good workstation helps you adopt a neutral posture, but your body is built to move. The best posture is the next posture: even perfect sitting causes complaints if you keep it up for too long. Employees learn how to set up their workstation ergonomically, how to actively vary their working day with movement, and the importance of micro and macro breaks. This contributes to their vitality, sustainable employability and general wellbeing. It also helps employers meet their legal obligation to provide information and prevention.

60%

of employees have musculoskeletal complaints (TNO/CBS, Netherlands Working Conditions Survey)

24%

of all sickness absence days are due to musculoskeletal complaints: the second largest cause (TNO/CBS)

— For whom

Who is the office ergonomics training for?

For teams who spend a lot of time working at a screen: posture, workstation set-up, working habits and break behaviour.

— Results

What is the result?

After the training, participants have the knowledge, insight and skills to recognise one-sided and repetitive load in screen work. They know what risks this brings for the neck, back, shoulders and vitality, and how to turn this influence into a positive one. Through healthy working habits, regular movement, relaxation and creating an ergonomic workstation (in the office and at home), they can do their work more comfortably and sustainably.

— Approach

What is the approach?

The training is interactive and experience-based: we alternate short pieces of theory with plenty of practice and exchange of experiences. Participants get hands-on with assessing and setting up their workstation, both in the office and at home. After the training they receive a handy infographic and hand-out, and there is an opportunity for personal advice. The training can be delivered on site, online or hybrid, so everyone can take part.

The ‘Healthy screen work’ training is tailored to the specific situation of your organisation. Before the training we hold an intake meeting in which we map out the needs, bottlenecks and wishes and decide where the emphasis will lie. If desired, we send a short questionnaire to the participants to take stock of their workstation situation (office or home).

— Why Ergomotion

Why choose our training?

Our training courses are given by trainers with a background in exercise therapy, physiotherapy or human movement sciences, and are built on awareness: experiencing and applying it yourself. The strength lies in small changes: a nuance in posture, a conscious choice in movement or a small adjustment in working habits can make a big difference over time.

Ergomotion has existed since 1998 and works from a paramedical background, in sectors ranging from healthcare and government to production environments.

Is providing information about screen work compulsory?

Under the Dutch Working Conditions Act (Arbowet), employers are obliged to provide a safe and healthy workplace, including when working from home. The Dutch Working Conditions Decree (Arbobesluit) works this out in chapter 5. Section 2 (articles 5.7 to 5.12) covers screen work. Among other things, it states that screen work must be regularly alternated with other work or with breaks (article 5.10), that employees must be able to have their eyes and eyesight examined (article 5.11), and which requirements the screen, furniture and lighting must meet (article 5.12).

Does this also apply to the home workstation?

Yes. The duty of care under the Dutch Working Conditions Act (Arbowet) also applies to the home workstation. Where working from home is structural, the employer must assess the risks, provide information on healthy (screen) work and make sure you have the means to work safely.

How often should I take breaks and move during work?

A good rule of thumb: briefly change posture every half hour and stand up to move at least once an hour. It is not the perfect posture that is decisive, but the variation. That is why we say: the healthiest posture is always the next one.

Is working standing up healthier than sitting?

Working standing up is not automatically healthier. Standing too long causes complaints just as much as sitting too long, and research into sit-stand desks has so far only produced low-quality evidence. The gain lies in the variation: sit, stand and move throughout the day.

Can the training be combined with workplace advice?

Yes. Workplace advice combines well with the office ergonomics training. The training gets the whole group on the same page about posture, breaks and working habits. The workplace advice then makes it concrete per workstation.

What does the 100% satisfaction guarantee mean?

A 100% satisfaction guarantee applies to this training.
Not satisfied, no invoice.

Can the training also be given individually?

A work hardening is an individual tailored programme for an employee who has to build up physical work again after absence or with reduced work capacity. The work hardening is intended for employees with physically demanding work or physical complaints, and for display screen workers with arm, neck or shoulder complaints.
